Configurations
In the previous guide, Alert Notifications, you've configured the necessary setup for your notification settings to be able to receive alert notifications. In this guide, we will take a quick look at the different configurations that will help in setting up your organizational architecture and setting up the configurations that affect the Alert Notifications Flow within your organization.
Integrations
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create/modify global integrations. However, a team admin can also create/modify integrations that belongs to her/his team.
In order to receive alerts and route them to the appropriate users, you would need to set up your integrations through the Integrations page. Opsgenie's Integrations Framework allows Opsgenie's alerting capability to work in conjunction with most popular monitoring tools. You can refer here to see the list of external services that we are already integrated with and detailed setup instructions for each one.
Schedules
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create/modify global schedules. However, a team admin can also create/modify schedules that belongs to her/his team.
Schedules are displayed on each Team's dashboard under the Main tab.
Opsgenie schedules are used to determine who is on-call at any given time. Schedules can be defined via the On-Call Schedules section of your Team's dashboard, under the Main tab. You can refer to the Schedules and Rotations document for further information about schedules.
Escalations
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create/modify global escalations. However, a team admin can also create/modify escalations that belongs to her/his team.
Escalations are used to notify recipients of each rule according to the given order and timeline to notify users in a desired order. After an escalation is added as a recipient to an alert, the escalation rules will notify their recipients when the specified time is over and the state of the alert meets the specified condition. You can refer to the Escalations document for further information. Escalations can be created/edited via the Team dashboard, under the Main tab.
Teams
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create new teams. If you're a team admin, you can modify the configurations including escalations, schedules and integrations of the team you belong to.
Teams are used to create meaningful representations of your organizational structures. You can define any number of teams through the Teams page so that your operational units can deal with the problems using Opsgenie's capabilities. Each team has its own schedules and escalations that are automatically used when alerts are routed. You can refer here for further information about routing alerts to teams and here for further information about team configurations.
Groups
Groups are Deprecated
Keep in mind the group feature is only available for older customers.
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create/modify groups.
Groups are basically list of users. Groups can be specified as standalone recipients for alerts and, when this is the case, all members are notified at the same time. If there is no need to know who is on-call at a given time and there is also no need for a time-based notification order, groups can be a simple solution for your organizational units. Groups can be created/edited via the Groups page.
Policies & Maintenance
If you're not an owner or admin within your Opsgenie organization, you cannot create/modify policies and maintenance.
Alert policies are used to modify alert content during alert creation, or apply rules to control how and when alert notifications may be sent to users. Policies directly affect your Alert Notifications Flow.
Maintenance provides the ability to enable or disable multiple alert policies/ integrations with a single entry.
