Integrate Opsgenie with SignalFx

What does Opsgenie offer SignalFx users?

SignalFx detectors monitor signals and send alerts when they cross defined thresholds. With the SignalFx Integration, Opsgenie acts as a dispatcher for these alerts, determines the right people to notify based on on-call schedules– notifies them using email, text messages (SMS), phone calls, and iPhone & Android push notifications, and escalates alerts until the alert is acknowledged or closed.

Opsgenie has a specific API for SignalFx Integration, SignalFx sends alerts to Opsgenie and Opsgenie handles the automatic creation of alerts.

Functionality of the integration

  • SignalFx detectors monitor signals and send alerts when they cross defined thresholds. When an alert is created in SignalFx, an alert is also created in Opsgenie automatically through the integration.

  • When values are back to normal, SignalFx detectors resolve the alert. When an alert is resolved in SignalFx, an alert is also closed in Opsgenie.

Add SignalFx Integration in Opsgenie

If you're using Opsgenie's Free or Essentials plan or if you’re using Opsgenie with Jira Service Management's Standard plan, you can add this integration from your team dashboard only. The Integrations page under Settings is not available in your plan.

  1. Go to Teams and select your team.

  2. Select Integrations on the left navigation and then select Add integration.

Adding the integration from your team dashboard will make your team the owner of the integration. This means Opsgenie will assign the alerts received through this integration to your team only. Follow the rest of the steps in this section to set up the integration.

  1. Go to Settings > Integrations. Search for SignalFx and select Add

  2. Specify who is notified of SignalFx alerts using the Responders field. Auto-complete suggestions are provided as you type.

  3. Copy the API URL.

  4. Select Save Integration.

Configuration in SignalFx

  1. Open SignalFx and click Integrations to open the Integrations page. Look for the tile named Opsgenie. You can search for it by name, or find it in the Notification Services section.

  2. Click the Opsgenie tile, then click New Integration to display the configuration options.

3. Specify the name that should appear when you’re configuring a detector rule to send an alert notification.

4. Paste the API key into the API key field that you've copied earlier, select your service region from the dropdown menu, then click Save.

Add an Opsgenie notification to a detector

  1. Create, edit, or subscribe to a detector that you want to send notifications to Opsgenie. Click Add recipient, select Opsgenie, then select the integration name that specifies where the notifications should be sent.

  2. If you select an integration associated with a particular team (see Add a SignalFx integration to a single Opsgenie team), notifications will be sent to that team. If you select an integration that can send notifications to multiple teams (see Add a SignalFx integration to multiple Opsgenie teams), you have two options:

  • Select a team to send the notification to a particular team instead of having Opsgenie determine how to handle the notification.

  • Select “No team” to indicate that Opsgenie should handle the notification based on settings you specified for the integration associated with the API key.
